Monday Maths Madness 22

I was debating whether to call this number 22 or 23, but I decided Christmas Maths Madness was a different thing, so I'll resume from where I left off. Because you really wanted to know that.

This is one of those internet memes. Normally it says "*something* is too damn high". I like two damn pi though. I wish I had two damn pies. That would make me very happy right now. *end random tangent*

Complex numbers (erm, relationships?) gotta love them.

I love it when people answer silly questions completely literally. This guy clearly put a lot of thought into his answer, and it kind of makes sense!

Well that's it from me today. I might actually write something worth reading on the next Monday Maths Madness. You never know. You'll have to stick around to find out... :P

Monday Maths Madness 8

More reality broken down into equations. I particularly like the modern art one. I sometimes really don't understand art. I'm still not convinced by the purple square I saw in the Tate gallery once.

The pigeons in this picture just happen to be sitting distances apart that reflect the distances between the numbers in the Fibonacci sequence (I still need to write that post. Soon I promise!) Even pigeons can do maths! Either that or it is a coincidence. Either way, it's pretty cool. I think so anyway.

I have no idea where this road is, but the caption on 9gag said that the road is a circle. As you know, pi is a ratio linked with circles, so that just makes this sign that much more awesome. I'm easily impressed aren't I?

Monday Maths Madness 7

I have more pictures!! Enjoy :)

Is it pi, or is it cake? Personally, I think it is a pake, just to confuse everyone more :) My sister made me a pake once. It was good.

I love 9gag. You can find some random things on there. Like this PIcycle. My step-dad might want one of these, although it does look like it might be kind of uncomfortable...

Poor little maths nerd. He made me laugh though.

Monday Maths Madness 4

Is this pie, or is this pi? Or maybe a pi pie? Whatever it is, it looks tasty.

My mum bought me a book called "Mr. Messy's Guide to STUDENT LIFE". My boyfriend found this page particularly funny.

Maths is everywhere! Even in the bike oil on my step-dad's leg...

Monday Maths Madness 3

Maths and food. Two of the best things. Ever. The formula for the volume of a cylinder (as pizza sort of is cylindrical. It's a circle with a height anyway) is pi x radius squared x depth. Pizza contains the word pi, two z's (z squared) and an a, so the substitution works out that pi x z x z x a = pi x radius squared x depth.

Pi is approximately equal to 3.14. It just so happens that the amount of tips needed to round off the total to $20 (yes dollars, the receipt says Los Angeles on it - good detective skills me!) is 3.14. I like that the person wrote pi instead.

This last picture reminds me of my sister. She really does not get on with maths. She likes to think she can't do it, when really she can, she just doesn't like it. I have to admit that a lot of the STEP questions I tried felt like this, but where would the fun be if it was too easy all the time?

Edit: This was meant to publish yesterday, but it didn't. I must've set up the scheduled post thing wrong...

March 14th - Pi Day

I just found this video posted by Youtube onto Facebook about the number pi. As it is March 14th, it is Pi Day (3.14), which I think is pretty cool. I actually made a pie yesterday. I should've held out one day longer! Anyway, the idea of this video is that if you assign all of the digits 0-9 a musical note in the scale of C major (basically without any flats or sharps) then the number pi creates a surprisingly melodic infinite musical piece. Check it out!

I think he may have more videos about pi, so when I'm not doing business homework and have more time, I will definitely be looking at some of those. Maybe I can find out some more interesting facts about pi :)
